ISFOC Script Manager (ISM)

ISM is an Indian language interface designed to work with Windows based applications in Indian Languages. Some supported applications are MS Office, Lotus Smart Suite, PageMaker, Corel Draw etc. Some areas where ISM comes handy are: Publishing / Printing, Web Publishing, E-Commerce applications, Word Processing, Data Processing, Custom designed applications. ISM has a variety of fonts. The packages contain a number of utilities.

ISM is a family of products, which are carved out for the specific needs of different group of users. The different products under ISM range are:

Description of Utilities available with ISM

Keyboard Settings

The ISM Keyboard Manager allows user selectable keyboard overlays. There is help for the currently selected keyboard overlay, which can also be used for practicing the keyboard

Others

The Inscript keyboard overlay can be reconfigured by the users. It will be an alphabetic and phonetic keyboard overlay in which an ACII string of maximum 8 characters can be assigned to keys on the QWERTY overlay representing the ASCII characters.

Keyboard Overlay

This option is used to display the keyboard overlay for the selected script. It displays the keyboard model and an edit window to display the characters that are keyed in.

Hyphenation

On-line hyphenation is available only in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu. This has been tested and found working fine with PageMaker, MS-Word and MS-Write. It may work in other Windows applications also. In case, any application gives problem with hyphenation 'On', switch it Off.

Set Default Fonts

This option is provided so that the desired fonts get automatically selected when the script activation key (CapsLock) is toggled. With this facility one does not have to manually select the fonts when the script is changed, either to English or some other script.

This option sets the default English font and selected Script font. This default font setting remains permanent till user changes the settings again.

Data Migration System

Data Migration System is a utility developed to provide the Indian Language support to databases. This utility provides many new features and now also supports the databases like Microsoft Access, FoxPro , DBase. The Database Handler uses Microsoft ODBC Desktop Driver 3.5 to open and query a database through Open Database Connectivity interface.

This utility is basically designed to support following functionalities for databases like Access, dBase, FoxPro (Dos based) etc.

· Transliterating data

· Changing the database format

· Converting data

· Sorting data

· Generating report

Browsing data

The time taken by DMS to perform any functionalities is directly proportional to the size of database. The large databases will take more time to process.

Conversion

ISM 2000 provides a whole range of Indian language tools for various purposes such as:

Editing Indian language documents
Merging data sources with documents
Translating English words/phrases
Conversion of Indian language documents from one ISFOC font type to another
Conversion of Indian language documents made in third party fonts to ISFOC fonts
Sorting Indian language entries in MS Excel

ISM Tools

ISM Tools provides the following facilities:

Mail Merge/Merge Data:

Use this tool to merge data source into a document. This can be achieved in two steps:

Create/Open data source

Merge data source

Spell Check

Use this tool to do spell check for Indian language documents.

Click Spell Check tool button in ISM Tools to do a spell check either on the entire document or on a selected portion.

NOTE: This tool does not support spell check for English documents. The Spell Checker will skip English words in Indian language documents.

Official Language Dictionary

Use this tool to translate English words/phrases to their Indian language equivalents.

Select the dictionary and enter the English word to be translated.

The field 'Select The Phrase' displays a list of phrases/words containing the English word entered by the user.

The field, 'Translated Words' displays a list of translations for the word/phrase selected by the user in the 'Select The Phrase' field.

Click the Transfer button to copy the translation to the document.

Find Replace

Use this tool to find and replace text in Indian language documents.

Use the Set Font buttons to specify the font attributes of word to be found and replaced with.

Use '?' as the Wild Card character.

Keyboard Shortcut

Use this tool to enter shortcuts for frequently used words/phrases.

Enter a shortcut and its corresponding expansion and click on Add button.

Use Delete button on delete and existing shortcut.

Select 'Enable Keyboard Shortcuts' to use the shortcuts.

NOTE: The shortcuts must be used on documents using the same font/font type as that used to enter the shortcuts.

ISM Converter Tools

The following converter tools are provided here:

ISFOC Converter

Use this tool to convert documents from one font ISFOC type to another.

Click on ISFOC Convert in ISM Converter Tools. This converter can be used run on the entire document or on a selected portion.

For best results, after the conversion process, select the entire document and apply the appropriate font.

It is necessary to convert running text and tables, in a document, separately. In such cases the running text needs to be selected to convert.

NOTE: Currently this utility does not support conversion from Monolingual Web to any other ISFOC font type. Hyperlinks if any need to be re-inserted after the conversion.

Custom Convert

Use this tool to convert data in third party fonts to ISFOC fonts. This utility can be used either for the entire document or for a selected portion.

Specify the ISFOC font type to which you want to convert data.

Click on Convert button.

For best results, after conversion, select the entire document and apply the appropriate fonts.

Web Convert

Use this utility to convert data from monolingual/bilingual fonts to their respective web types.

Click on Web Convert in ISM Converter Tools.

This utility can be used to convert either the entire document on a selected portion thereof.

NOTE: Hyperlinks if any need to be re-inserted after the conversion

TM to TAM

This converts text in Tamil Monolingual font (ISFOC) to Tamil monolingual standardization (TAM) font and vice versa.

KN to KGP

This Converter Converts Kannada Monolingual (ISFOC) to Kannada Ganaka Parishat Standardization(KGP).

Configurable Keyboard

Configurable Keyboard is an application using which user can make the keyboards of his/her liking. User can make the keyboard in the following languages.

Assamese, Bengali, Devanagari, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu

There are two keyboards

Inscript Keyboard : This Keyboard can be displayed in the following ways.

§ Indian language keys

§ Indian language keys of Keyboard when Shift Key is On.

§ Half keys {Shift & Without Shift Keys}. These Half Keys are supported for Devanagari and Gujarati only.

§ English Keyboard Keys.

Combination Keys are also supported.

User defined Keyboard : This is the keyboard in which different keys can been arranged according to users choice.

The Procedure is given below:

§ Click the key in the Inscript keyboard which is to be put on the User defined Keyboard. The cursor will be changed to different type.

§ Click the Key on the user defined keyboard on which the key of Inscript is to be put.

§ Use the same procedure for configuring all the keys on the keyboard. For changing the shift keys of user defined keyboard make "Show Shift Keys " Checkbox "On".

§ Then save this keyboard by pressing "Save" button. You can select the keyboard file name of your choice and save it.

Roman Script

This option enables users to type in the International Roman Diacritic mode. This mode is used by publishers to depict North Indian scripts in English. There are three variants to the Roman Script:

· Lower Case -- To type entire text in lower case

· Upper Case -- To type entire text in upper case

· Initial Caps -- To type only the first letter of each word in upper case.

Web Fonts

It has been observed that with the new browsers being introduced, some locations of the fonts have been used by the application. To take care of this and to handle the excess spreading of the text in the browsers, a new set of fonts was required. This set of fonts is what is available as Web fonts - the monolingual web fonts and bilingual web fonts.

Monolingual WEB fonts: These are of the form DVW-TTYogesh. They are the modified version of the monolingual fonts. The naming convention is the same. The typing style also remains same as Monolingual fonts.

Bilingual WEB fonts: These are of the form DVBW-TTYogesh. They are the modified version of the bilingual fonts. The naming convention remains the same. The typing style also remains the same as that of Bilingual fonts.
