iLEAP

Frequently asked Questions

Q. While installation a message comes showing that ‘Invalid Serial Number Detected’.

Ans.: This happens usually because an invalid entry of serial number. Usually the confusion between the character ‘O’ and digit ‘0’ is the causes. Care should be taken to see that the serial number should be entered in all caps with no spaces in between.

This might also happens if 'Return' key (Enter) is pressed after entering the serial number. Care should be taken to see that the 'Next' tab should be pressed after correctly entering the serial number.

Q. After installation it shows that ‘Indian Language fonts are already in use by other application of Windows. You will have to close those applications and restart WINDOWS. Or iLEAP already installed. Kindly remove the existing version and then install.

Ans.: If you observe such a message then you will have to restart WINDOWS as prompted and try installation once more. If there is any other Indian Language software, which is in the program startup group, then you will have to remove it from the startup group and then install.

Sometime, it has been observed that same message comes because of conflict with some other vendors’ TT Fonts and even CDAC TT Fonts (if already there in the machine). Then those TT Fonts are to be removed and restart and install again.

Q. After successful installation all the Languages are not available in the menu upon right click.

Ans.: This usually happens because there are a large number of fonts installed on your machine. The Windows registry allows only 64-KB file for registration of fonts. In this case remove the existing version of iLEAP and try installing with ‘Typical option’. This will install minimum fonts on your machine.

Q. It is not possible to take a ‘Quick Tour’ on Win3.X

Ans.: ‘Quick Tour’ requires Lotus ScreenCam and is designed only for Windows 95 and above.

Q. While using Phonetic Keyboard it is not possible to form some conjuncts and vowels.

Here if you learn the table properly there would be no problem typing with Phonetic English Keyboard. There is not even a single word which cannot be formed using Phonetic English keyboard.

Q. After highlighting a text and deleting it sometimes the cursor disappears.

Ans.: Here press shift and then click on the page wherever the mouse cursor is, the vertical cursor will appear.

Q. How can I send e-mail in Indian Languages?

Ans.: * You need to have a MAPI compliant E-mail client (such as MS Outlook, Eudora, etc.,) installed on your computer. Your computer needs to be connected to a modem. Here, I would love to see a small help on "How to configure Outlook/Eudora etc."

1. Create your document (English or multilingual).

2. Select the Send Mail item in the File menu.

A Send Mail dialog box having the following options will be displayed.

a. LP2 file - This option will send your iLEAP document as an attachment in the mail. To be able to read your document, the recipient needs to have iLEAP or iLEAP Office installed on his/her computer. iLEAP Lite (Trial Copy) is available on the Internet for a free download at www.cdacindia.com.

b. RTF document - If sent as a RTF document, fonts used in the document need to be installed on the recipient's computer. Fonts are also available on the Internet for a free download at www.cdacindia.com. Another facility provided by iLEAP is to send the font installation exe
along with the email itself. You can do this the first time for every recipient

c. HTML document - This also needs fonts on the recipient's PC as explained above.

d. ISCII document - This is for recipients who have a editor, word processor or GIST card which can recognize ISCII format

e. BMP document (Monochrome). - Sends a monochrome Windows bitmap as an attachment. This is preferred for recipients who neither have fonts nor have iLEAP. They can just view the mail and cannot do any editing on it. This generally has a smaller size than the JPEG attachment. The first visible page contents are sent.

f. JPEG document (Monochrome) - Similar to the Windows BMP but is also supported on non-Windows platforms.

*Tip: A BMP document is smaller in size than a JPEG document.

3. Click on the Send button. The E-mail client window will be opened. (This window and other

subsequent windows or dialogs presented will be dependent on the E-mail client software that has been installed on your computer). Your document will be sent as an attachment. (The format is dependent on the option that you select in Step 3 above). Enter the E-mail address that you want to send to and other necessary options. Click OK.

Q. I experience some problems with text flow. Every page, at times even a paragraph, become an independent text block. How to join them? If I add some more text to a block anywhere midway, will the remaining blocks adjust their location automatically?

Ans.: In both the software once the cursor appears on the page a block starts and it will continue till you shift + click on the page else where. Now these two become independent blocks. If you want to edit the previous block then you will have to move the lower block else where to avoid overlapping. The movement of the block will be possible only in the block mode ( ‘Edit’ menu ‘Frame’).

Q. To make columns all over the book, what do I do?

Ans.: In the ‘Edit Menu’ click ‘Goto’ and ‘Master pages’. Type some text on the left as well as right  master page. Then go to ‘Layout’ and ‘Make Column’ option. Give appropriate number. Stretch these columns till the entire page. Do similar settings to the left master page. Delete the text entered. Then again go to EDIT menu and click ‘Document’. Now start typing the document in the column format.

Ans.: This is a problem with some of the printer drivers. You are requested to change the printer driver of similar series and try printing. This will solve the problem.

Q. In iLEAP is it possible to work in Windows applications?

Ans.: iLEAP is an independent word processor. It does not allow the user to work directly in other windows applications however it is possible to export content created in iLEAP in RTF format. This RTF text can be opened in other windows based applications. In any case it is recommended to use Leap Office to work in other windows based applications because in addition of being an independent word processor it also allows you to use these fonts in other Windows based applications.

Q. While working in iLEAP suddenly a message comes "Illegal Operation / General Protection Fault in  ofleap.exe"

Ans:There is no particular reason for this. This occurs because sometimes the computer points to some memory location which does'nt exit.

Q. I am unable to reduce space between lines. When I click text and then character and then other attributes, I get a dialogue box on character that has a box on line spacing. Selecting any one of the three options i.e., auto, 1 2 and double does not change the line spacing which now seems to be "double".

Ans: Try opening a New file with the default settings and then see if you are able to work properly. If yes then, you need to export the file as RTF file then do the alignment in say Microsoft Word. Then after that import the same file in iLEAP. This should be a proper file.

Q. Very often I get a desktop warning saying that an illegal operation has been done. What are these illegal operations so that I may avoid them?

Ans: Illegal operation are basically caused when an invalid memory references are pointed to by the software. This can usually occur if by mistake some file is deleted from the system, So please uninstall iLEAP if this is frequent and then restart the system to install iLEAP again.

Ans: On the Edit menu there is a sub menu called Goto which has two options      1.Documents and 2.Master Page which has a facility to make a book .On top of the page the name of the book or the Author can be typed .To Add  a page number go to the File option  which has a Page properties menu, which will allow you to include page nos .On your page.

Q. We are mainly using it for creating web pages. Malayalam web pages created in iLEAP using 'ML-TTKarthika' font is appearing properly in Internet Explorer 5.0, however in Internet Explorer 5.5 some alphabets are not appearing properly.
