LEAP OFFICE

Frequently Asked Questions

Note

Due to various changes occurring in WINDOWS architecture we had to make significant changes in our software.  In this regard please switch off the TOGGLE KEY (NUM LOCK, CAPS LOCK or SCROLL LOCK) on the keyboard before closing any application like Leap Office 2000, ISM 2000, Microsoft WORD etc. This will ensure the proper operation of our software across all the WINDOWS Operating Systems.

Q. While installation a message comes showing that ‘Invalid Serial Number Detected’

Ans.: This happens usually because an invalid entry of serial number. Usually the confusion between the character ‘O’ and digit ‘0’ is the causes. Care should be taken to see that the serial number should be entered in all caps with no spaces in between.

This might also happens if 'Return' key (Enter) is pressed after entering the serial number. Care should be taken to see that the 'Next' tab should be pressed after correctly entering the serial number.

Q. After installation it shows that ‘Indian Language fonts are already in use by other application of Windows. You will have to close those applications and restart WINDOWS. Or Leap Office already installed. Kindly remove the existing version and then install.

Ans.: If you observe such a message then you will have to restart WINDOWS as prompted and try installation once more. If there is any other Indian Language software, which is in the program startup group, then you will have to remove it from the startup group and then install. Sometime, it has been observed that same message comes because of conflict with some other vendors’ TT Fonts and even CDAC TT Fonts (if already there in the machine). Then those TT Fonts are to be removed and restart and install again

Q. After successful installation all the Languages are not available in the menu upon right click.

Ans.: This usually happens because there are a large number of fonts installed on your machine. The Windows registry allows only 64-KB file for registration of fonts. In this case remove the existing version of Leap Office and try installing with ‘Typical option’. This will install minimum fonts on your machine.

Q. It is not possible to take a ‘Quick Tour’ on Win3.X?

Ans.: ‘Quick Tour’ requires Lotus ScreenCam and is designed only for Windows 95 and above.

Q. While using Phonetic Keyboard it is not possible to form some conjuncts and vowels.

Ans.: Phonetic English keyboard involves typing with some rules. The mapping table is giving in ‘Help Menu’, Typing Tutorials, and Phonetic English. Here if you learn the table properly there would be no problem typing with Phonetic English Keyboard.

We are enclosing a Phonetic Typing tutorial for Tamil since Tamil phonetics do not match with other languages.

Q. After highlighting a text and deleting it sometimes the cursor disappears.

Ans.: Here press shift and then click on the page wherever the mouse cursor is, the vertical cursor will appear.

Q. How can I send e-mail in Indian Languages?

Ans.: * You need to have a MAPI compliant E-mail client (such as MS Outlook, Eudora, etc.,) installed on your computer. Your computer needs to be connected to a modem. Here, I would love to see a small help on "How to configure Outlook/Eudora etc."

1. Create your document (English or multilingual).

2. Select the Send Mail item in the File menu.

For Leap Office 2000 :

a.LP3 file-This option will send your LEAP Office 2000 document as an attachment in the mail. To be able to read your document, the recipient needs to have LEAP Office 2000

b. LP2 file - This option will send your LEAP Office document as an attachment in the mail. To be able to read your document, the recipient needs to have iLEAP or LEAP Office installed on his/her computer. iLEAP Lite (Trial Copy) is available on the Internet for a free download at www.cdacindia.com.(In  Leap Office 2000 this facility is provided in Publisher utility)

c. RTF document - If sent as a RTF document, fonts used in the document need to be installed on the recipient's computer. Fonts are also available on the Internet for a free download at www.cdacindia.com. Another facility provided by LEAP Office is to send the font installation exe along with the email itself. This can be done by setting the option provided in the Tools -> Option menu. So when ever a mail is sent it will also attach the fonts automatically. If your default email service is Netscape then attach Bin\fonins32.exe from the leap office folder.

d. HTML document - This also needs fonts on the recipient's PC as explained above.

e. ISCII document - This is for recipients who have a editor, wordprocessor or GIST card which can recognize ISCII format

f. BMP document (Monochrome). - Sends a monochrome Windows bitmap as an attachment. This is preferred for recipients who neither have fonts nor have iLEAP. They can just view the mail and cannot do any editing on it. This generally has a smaller size than the JPEG attachment. The first visible page contents are sent. (In  Leap Office 2000 this facility is provided in Publisher utility)

g. JPEG document (Monochrome) - Similar to the Windows BMP but is also supported on non-Windows platforms. (In  Leap Office 2000 this facility is provided in Publisher utility)

*Tip: A BMP document is smaller in size than a JPEG document.

3. Click on the Send button. The E-mail client window will be opened. (This window and other subsequent windows or dialogs presented will be dependent on the E-mail client software that has been installed on your computer). Your document will be sent as an attachment. (The format is dependent on the option that you select in Step 3 above). Enter the E-mail address that you want to send to and other necessary options. Click OK.

Q. Can I design my web pages using Leap Office?

Ans.: Yes. You can type the contents you want to upload on the net. In the file option go to ‘Export ‘option and export it as HTML. Now you can upload this HTML document on your website. Q. Though Leap Office is installed in the network server and the shortcut on the nodes is there, Indian Languages are not available on the local nodes.

Ans.: Though Leap Office is installed in the network, it is mandatory to have the Indian Language fonts installed on the local machine where the software is going to be used. So after installation of Leap Office as a server copy, you can run the software from the server but you will have to install the fonts on the local machine (this can be done by running netsetup.exe from the server).

Q. I experience some problems with text flow. Every page, at times even a paragraph, become an independent text block. How to join them? If I add some more text to a block anywhere midway, will the remaining blocks adjust their location automatically?

Ans.: In both the software once the cursor appears on the page a block starts and it will continue till you shift + click on the page else where. Now these two become independent blocks. If you want to edit the previous block then you will have to move the lower block elsewhere to avoid overlapping. The movement of the block will be possible only in the block mode (‘Edit’ menu ‘Frame’).(Happens Only in leap office publisher which goes along with Leap Office 2000)

Q. To make columns all over the book, what do I do?

Ans.: In the ‘Edit Menu’ click ‘Goto’ and ‘Master pages’. Type some text on the left as well as right master page. Then go to ‘Layout’ and ‘Make Column’ option. Give appropriate number. Ans: You do not need to use bilingual fonts in the word processor part of LEAP Office 2000. In order to use the option of bilingual fonts you need to select the Tools->Option-> Others menu. Q. I was using LEAP Office 1.35 in Windows 95 & Windows 98. Recently bought a new machine with Windows XP. Unfortunately LEAP Office is not working with Windows XP. LEAP Office is not working with Windows 2000 also.

A. LEAP Office 1.35 is not compatible with Windows 2000 and above. You will have to upgrade the same to LEAP Office 2000.

Q. I am a registered user of LEAP Office. Can I design Web pages using it.

A. LEAP Office can be used for content creation in Indian languages, as it is having a facility to export files entered in LEAP Office to HTML. LEAP Office also helps you to enter the data directly in MS-Word as it integrates with other Windows based applications. The data thus converted or entered in MS- Word (after saving it as HTML) can be uploaded in the Web. Then, some of the characters will not displayed properly as the content is not in Web font. This is because, the new versions of browser applications are released, it takes the reserved character spaces available for displaying Indian language characters. For the designing of Web fonts become necessary. The Web fonts are available along with ISM 2000 range of products only.
